Apartment Society Moving Rules in Hyderabad
Updated 2026-09-09 · Triveni Packers and Movers
In most Hyderabad gated communities the paperwork decides your moving date, not the movers. A crew and vehicle can be ready and still wait at the gate because a lift slot was never booked. None of it is difficult, but almost all of it has a lead time.
What societies typically ask for
- A move-out or move-in NOC from the association, usually issued only once dues are cleared
- A gate pass listing the date, flat number, vehicle registration and the crew
- A booked service lift slot, often a fixed two to four hour window
- A refundable deposit against damage to the lift, lobby or common areas
- For tenants, the owner’s consent, since the association answers to the owner on record
Why the service lift slot matters most
A slot is a hard limit on how long the crew has vertical access. Miss it and the goods either wait for the next window or go down the stairs, which takes longer and costs more. In taller towers where one lift is shared by several moves, the slot is often the single fixed point the whole day is planned around.
Book the slot at both ends. People reliably arrange it where they are leaving and forget the building they are moving into, which strands a loaded vehicle at the destination.
Where the rules differ across the city
- Large gated communities in the western corridor — Gachibowli, Kondapur, Manikonda, Narsingi — tend to have the most formal process, with written NOCs and fixed lift windows
- Dense apartment clusters such as KPHB and Nizampet often restrict truck entry by size, so a smaller shuttle vehicle may be needed for the last stretch
- Older buildings around Ameerpet, Begumpet and parts of Secunderabad may have no service lift at all, which changes both the crew size and the time needed
- Independent houses usually have no association process, but lane width and parking still decide what vehicle can reach the door
A sensible order to do it in
- Fix the move date and check it against any society-restricted days.
- Clear outstanding maintenance dues, since the NOC usually depends on it.
- Apply for the NOC and gate pass, and ask what the association needs from the movers.
- Book the service lift at both the origin and the destination.
- Send the vehicle number and crew details to security once the movers confirm them.
- Confirm every approval in writing the day before, not on the morning itself.

FAQs
How early should I ask my society for a move-out NOC?
Ask a week ahead. Most associations want dues cleared before they issue it, and if a maintenance bill is pending the certificate can be held back until you pay. Leaving it to the last two days is the most common reason a move gets pushed.
Can a society refuse to let the moving truck in?
Security can refuse entry if there is no approved gate pass, and many communities restrict vehicle size or entry timings. This is why the truck registration number and crew names usually have to be submitted in advance rather than given at the gate.
Is the moving deposit refundable?
Where a society collects one it is normally refundable after a walkthrough confirms no damage to the lift, lobby or common areas. Ask who inspects and how long the refund takes, because the timeline varies between associations.
